Gbits Newsletter and Science Supplement Description: The GBIF Secretariat publishes GBits, the GBIF electronic newsletter, on a bimonthly basis, as well as the GBits Science Supplement. The GBits Science Supplement keeps you abreast of the increasing number of scientific studies making use of data accessed through GBIF. Here you can find archived newsletters from the GBIF Secretariat and Participant Nodes. Abstract: The GBIF newsletter is issued every two months and carries the most relevant global news and announcements, including news on data publishing and use. Contributions to GBits are always welcome and may be sent to info@gbif.org. The Global Biodiversity Information Facility exists to benefit science and society, by promoting free and open access to data via the Internet. A measure of its progress is the extent to which data mobilized by GBIF’s many publishers are being used in scientific research, supporting targets to reduce biodiversity loss. The Science Supplement aims to communicate the uses of GBIF-mediated data on a regular basis. The research papers cited in the Science Supplements are all included in a virtual ‘GBIF Public Library’ using the Mendeley academic social network platform. More than 1,200 GBIF-related papers are tagged according to the type of use, subject matter and geographical location. The library is constantly being updated with new research, and you can browse and search it online here. You will also find instructions there for downloading the Mendeley desktop version which allows you to share, annotate and add papers.
